“Boris Vian produced several books of fiction and poetry and translated Raymond Chandler before his death at 39. Duke Ellington, whose music had been an inspiration to him since he was a teenager, became a good friend and the godfather to Boris’s daughter when he visited Paris in the late ’40s. Juliette Gréco said Boris was something of an older brother to her.”
